This Workshop is broken down into 3 main parts:
Adolescent Development:
The physical, emotional, and mental developments that occur during adolescents. This can help adults adjust their communication approach and expectations to better suit the age of the child
Communication Skills:
Review generally effective communication skills, learn neutral ways to approach difficult topics (e.g., social media, substance use, sexual activities, rule-breaking) that often lead to disagreements between adolescents and their adult caregivers. We will discuss and practice strategies to reduce tension and help manage emotions, and redirect the conversation if necessary.
Seeking Supports:
When (and why) to get outside support from the school and/or community
